Vt crackle

Post by Bart ve »

Hi Brent. I have following issue. I voice track with the following configuration PF, Airlite, DBX286s and Shure Sm7b. While recording the vt it sounds nice in my headphones. When I listen to the recorded vt afterwards, there is always a slight crackle. do you have any idea what that could be? I have already tried a different mic and a new cable. the problem remains. Ty. Greetings.

It sounds that your recording buffer settings or driver settings introduce these crackles.
Try a normal recording of your input recording. The crackles will be present there as well I assume
So increase your recording buffer settings. Is. your WASAPI settings of the related input mixer channel or in case you are using ASIO in your ASIO driver settings.

Thanks for your answer, Brent. The crackle exists also in a normal recording (Audacity). So I increase this in the mixer settings of the VT-channel? How much should I increase the recording buffer? Thanks.

My name is Bernd :-)

However, start with a higher value, eg. 300ms and then decrease.
Also note, that you might play with Update Period. Eg. start with 50 and then decrease.

The settings depends on the hardware, so that’s why the default values should actually work in most cases - as they are then determined by the audio driver.

If no setting really works and the sound still crackles - it must be a hardware issue maybe?!
