Loss of Tags, Metadata and Sound Settings After Automatic File Update

Hello Bernd,

I have a problem with the recurring files for the weekly programs.

Example: I have a show that I’ll call Rock Show, divided into 4 parts of 14 minutes each — Rock Show 1, Rock Show 2, Rock Show 3, Rock Show 4. To broadcast this show, I created a playlist with 4 lines, one for each part. Since the original files are named by the provider as rs1.mp3, rs2.mp3, etc., in Tag & Metadata I renamed them Rock Show 1, Rock Show 2, etc., and I put the presenter’s name in the Artist field. Then, I specify that it is a Show and tick RecalcACDP. Finally, since the files are delivered with a sound level that is too low, I use the PFL Player to increase the level. Then I save the playlist.

In the show script, I create 4 lines. In Mode, I choose LoadTrack and select the file rs1.mp3, and in Options I select SuppressHistoryCheck. I repeat the same process for all 4 files.

On the first broadcast, everything is fine. But on the next one, when the new files are downloaded automatically, all my settings are gone: the TAGs, the Metadata, the sound levels, the ACPD points.

I know I made a mistake somewhere in my process, but I don’t know where. Could you help me?

Thank you,
best regards,
Claude.

Of course the settings are gone, as the TAG data etc. are stored in the audio file and it is now new audio files! Ie. the old settings are not automatically transferred to the new files. Ie. you must tag them again.

Thank you for your answer.
So, there is no solution to avoid this problem? It seems to me that on ProppFrexx, there was the option to store the information in a separate file.

Yes, see the .pfmd metadata file options in the general settings and the priority option!
But note, that this option then also allows to all files.

Alright, thank you. I’ll look into this option and see what impact it has.

The main impact is, that you have to make sure to keep the meta data is sync and only save meta data to .pfmd file where you really need them, as else you easily wonder why your data is wrong…

In Setting & Options - MetaData/WaveForm, I checked the box Use MetaData Files (.pfmd) and, in each file from the playlist, I filled in my Track Data and clicked on the Save MetaData File button, then Save to close the window.

Before broadcasting, the Data was there, but at the moment of broadcasting, nothing remained except the mp3 file name.

My questions:

1/ In Setting & Options - MetaData/WaveForm, should I also check the box MetaData has Priority?
2/ Should I have filled in the Track Data from the MetaData Editor instead of from the playlist?
3/ Is there a checkbox in the broadcast script to force the data to be read?

And a question that isn’t really related, but in the end: is it useful, for broadcasting a pre-recorded show, to create both a playlist and a script?

Once again, thank you for your help.

1/ yes
2/ both will work - but you need to click on the ‚Save .pfmd File‘ button in the TAG Editor
3/ in the script-line option there is

Depends when you re-broadcast. But it sounds the re-broadcast must happen before new files are uploaded and overwrite the old files.

1/ Done
2/ Strange: when I use MetaData Editor, the RecalcACPD box (I want the ACPD points to be recalculated when loading into the Player) does not stay checked. If I do the same thing in the Playlist, it remains checked.
3/ OK, I got it - but here, the box does stay checked but the option is not displayed in the line.

Regarding the broadcast, I checked: the files are indeed downloaded well before the program starts.
