Is it possible to adjust the duration on the 'Play Next Track' (Play Next Use Fading) / F9 ribbon button which by default is set to about 1.5 secs fade out and 2.5 secs fade in. I would like to particularly extend the fade out.

Yes, see general settings, section Mixing/Fading.
Here you can adjust the default and even define different values per media entry type.
