at presenet when i create a new show from the schedule, the track play count of all the tracks added are increased by one regardless of whether i actually play the tracks or swap them out for alternatives. is there a way to reset the track play count for specific tracks?

Yes, from almost everywhere you can press ALT+2 to 'Show Info...' of that selected track.
This dialog contains a 'Clear Entry Statistic' button to reset that specific entry statistic.
